What to Expect at Mobile World Congress 2025: New Phones, AI, and More

Mobile World Congress 2025 is just around the corner, and the tech world is abuzz with excitement. The annual event, taking place in Barcelona from March 3rd to 6th, promises to bring a slew of new smartphones, innovative features, and artificial intelligence (AI) advancements from top manufacturers. While Samsung and Sony may not be using MWC as a launchpad for their flagship phones this year, other major players like Xiaomi, Nothing, HMD, and Honor are expected to make significant announcements.

Xiaomi is confirmed to launch its flagship 15 series on March 2nd, with the regular 15 and 15 Ultra models expected to debut. The 15 Ultra, in particular, has generated significant buzz with its photography-focused features, including a quadruple-rear camera with a 200-megapixel periscope lens. If it lives up to its promises, the 15 Ultra could boast the best phone camera in the world.

Nothing, a relatively new player in the smartphone market, is set to launch its 3A series on March 4th. The company has teased its first triple camera, featuring a 3x optical zoom periscope lens, and has even shared comparison snaps with an iPhone 16 Pro Max. Leaks have revealed that the 3A and 3A Pro will have similar designs but differ in camera capabilities, with a new side button that enables an AI assistant and an "Essential Space" feature.

Samsung, while not expected to make any major hardware announcements, may tease its Galaxy S25 Edge, an extra-thin entry in its flagship line. Google, another company that rarely makes significant hardware announcements at MWC, might focus on Android updates, possibly centered around its Gemini AI assistant.

HMD, the manufacturer of modern Nokia phones, has scheduled a press conference for March 2nd, with teasers hinting at a collaboration with FC Barcelona. The company might unveil its first Barcelona-branded handset, building on its promise of more collaborations to come. Lenovo, meanwhile, is rumored to launch the ThinkBook Flip, a laptop with a foldable screen, according to leaker Evan Blass.

Honor has announced a press conference on March 2nd, but instead of new hardware, the company will unveil its "Alpha Plan," a new corporate vision. However, Honor has teased an announcement related to "cross-system connectivity with iOS devices," which could be an interesting development. Realme, on the other hand, will launch its 14 Pro series globally, featuring a color-changing finish, and has hinted at an all-new phone with an ultra-large sensor and DSLR-inspired hardware.

Tecno has teased a range of announcements, including the launch of the Camon 40 series of phones with updated camera software that can better capture diverse skin tones. The company will also showcase "practical AI" and might bring smart glasses, an AI-enabled laptop, and a prototype of its Phantom Ultimate 2 trifold phone. TCL, known for its Nxtpaper E Ink-esque displays, is expected to unveil new phones featuring this technology.

As the mobile industry converges on Barcelona, Mobile World Congress 2025 promises to be an exciting event, with a focus on innovation, AI, and cutting-edge technology. Stay tuned for the latest updates and announcements from the show floor.
