At CES 2025, Indian startup Ultrahuman took the wraps off its latest innovation: a trio of luxury smart rings dubbed Rare. This new line marks a significant departure from the company's more affordable Ring Air, with prices ranging from £1,500 to £1,800 (approximately $1,900 to $2,250). The premium materials used in the Rare Rings, including 18K gold and 95% platinum, set them apart from other smart rings on the market.
According to Ultrahuman's Founder and CEO, Mohit Kumar, the luxury line is not a limited-edition collaboration, but rather a deliberate attempt to push the boundaries of smart ring technology and design. The company is targeting consumers who prioritize their health and well-being, as well as those who desire exclusive, high-end products that reflect their personal values and sophisticated tastes.
The first trio of Rare rings, dubbed the "Desert Collection," features three distinct designs: "Dune" (gold-toned), "Desert Rose" (rose gold), and "Desert Snow" (silver-colored platinum). Each ring boasts a brushed finish with finely crafted grooves, giving them a smooth yet textured feel. While there are no actual gemstones in this collection, the design suggests that this could be a possibility in future releases.
Underneath the luxurious exterior, the Rare Rings pack the same advanced tracking technology as Ultrahuman's Ring Air, including photoplethysmography and 6-axis motion sensors. This enables the rings to provide a wealth of metrics on the wearer's sleep, movement, heart rate, heart rate variability, stress, skin temperature, and more.
Rare Ring owners will also receive an "exclusive suit of benefits," including lifetime access to UltrahumanX, the company's coverage and benefits program, as well as complimentary access to all PowerPlugs – software add-ons that can further customize the user experience.
The Ring Rare will debut in Europe in Q1 2025, starting in the UK and France, and will be available in select premium retail locations. The first two retailers to stock the collection are luxury high-end department stores: Selfridges London and Printemps Paris. Kumar confirmed that the company plans to expand availability to other markets following the launch, including New York, Milan, and India.
Ultrahuman's foray into the luxury smart ring market is a bold move, especially considering the Apple Watch has already demonstrated that consumers are willing to pay a premium for high-end wearables. The success of Rare will depend on whether consumers are willing to shell out top dollar for a smart ring that not only tracks their health and wellness but also serves as a status symbol.
As the wearables market continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how Ultrahuman's luxury strategy plays out. With its focus on exclusivity, design, and advanced technology, the Rare Rings may just find a niche among consumers seeking a unique blend of style and substance.
