Retro Remake has officially opened preorders for its highly anticipated SuperStation One, a clone of the PS One variant of the original PlayStation. The $149.99 Founders Edition preorders have already sold out, but gamers can still snag the standard $225 SuperStation One for $179.99, with shipping expected in "Q4 or Earlier."
The SuperStation One is not just a nostalgic replica of the PS One; it's a custom MiSTER field-programmable gate array (FPGA) machine that can function like various consoles, including the Atari 5200, NES, PlayStation, and Sega Saturn. This means it can play a wide range of games beyond just PS1 titles. The system comes in three colors – black, gray, and translucent blue – and is equipped with a 64GB Micro SD card, three USB-A ports, an ethernet port, and an NFC reader that can trigger specific games to load.
In terms of video output, the SuperStation One features an HDMI port, as well as VGA, DIN10, composite, and component ports, making it ideal for retro gaming setups. Additionally, it has a 3.5mm audio jack and a digital audio port. An expansion slot is also included, which will support Retro Remake's planned SuperDock accessory. This upcoming accessory will add a slot-loading disc drive, a 2280 m.2 SSD bay, and four more USB-A ports. Although the SuperDock is not yet available for preorder, customers can put down a $5 preorder deposit with their SuperStation One order.
This marks Retro Remake's first foray into console production, but the company has already made a name for itself with other innovative products, such as a DIY kit for upgrading the Nintendo Switch Lite to an OLED display. According to Taki Udon, Retro Remake plans to release more consoles in the future, further expanding its retro gaming offerings.
The SuperStation One's FPGA technology sets it apart from traditional console emulators, allowing it to accurately replicate the hardware of various consoles. This could potentially open up new possibilities for retro gaming enthusiasts and developers alike. As the retro gaming market continues to grow, it will be interesting to see how Retro Remake's innovative approach impacts the industry.
With its unique blend of nostalgia and cutting-edge technology, the SuperStation One is poised to be a game-changer in the retro gaming scene. Gamers and collectors alike will be eagerly anticipating the release of this exciting new console, which promises to bring a new level of authenticity and versatility to retro gaming.
