Nintendo's Switch successor is expected to be revealed in April 2025, but thanks to a flurry of recent leaks, we may already have a good idea of what the new console will look like. The latest renders, shared by OnLeaks and 91Mobiles, provide a detailed look at the potential design and features of the Nintendo Switch 2.
According to the new renders, the Switch 2 will resemble the original Switch but with a larger 8.4-inch screen, which is "most likely" to be an OLED panel. This contradicts previous reports that suggested the console would feature an LCD screen. The top of the console will feature a power button, a volume rocker, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a game card slot, and a new USB-C port.
The renders also show a U-shaped kickstand, similar to what has been seen in other leaks. Additionally, there appears to be a sensor of sorts on the top of the console, which OnLeaks and 91Mobiles speculate could be an ambient light sensor or something else.
The Joy-Cons in the renders feature a mysterious second new button on the right Joy-Con, located above the Home button. This differs from other leaks that have placed the new button below the Home button. The Joy-Cons also have large buttons on the back, which are apparently used to detach the controllers from the console magnetically.
The renders also reveal an interesting color scheme for the Joy-Cons, with mostly black bodies and color accents – light blue on the left Joy-Con and orange on the right – under the joystick pads and on the bumped-out part of the controllers with the SL and SR buttons. This design is similar to what was seen earlier this month for an alleged Switch 2 left Joy-Con with light blue accents.
While Nintendo has yet to officially announce the Switch 2, the recent flurry of leaks suggests that the company may be getting close to a reveal. When the console does launch, it will face stiff competition in the gaming market. Despite this, the Switch 2's potential design and features, as revealed by these latest leaks, suggest that it could be a compelling option for gamers.
As we await Nintendo's official announcement, one thing is clear: the Switch 2 is shaping up to be a highly anticipated release, and these latest leaks only add to the excitement. With its potential OLED screen, USB-C port, and redesigned Joy-Cons, the Switch 2 could be a major player in the gaming market. We'll have to wait and see how it all comes together when Nintendo finally lifts the curtain on its new console.
