Motorola has made a significant splash in the budget smartphone market with the announcement of its 2025 Moto G Power, a device that packs an impressive IP69 water-resistance rating and wireless charging capabilities at an unbeatable price of $299.99. This new offering is part of the company's updated Moto G line, which also includes the standard Moto G model.
The 2025 Moto G Power's IP69 rating is a notable feature, as it surpasses the water-resistance capabilities of most flagship phones. This rating combines both IP68 and IP69 ratings, meaning the device is not only protected against submersion in water but also against high-pressure water jets and steam. Additionally, the phone has passed MIL-STD-810H certification, ensuring it can withstand harsh environments, including falls from nearly four feet, extreme temperatures, and high humidity levels.
Despite its rugged nature, the Moto G Power is surprisingly slim, measuring in at less than 9mm thick. The device features a 6.8-inch LCD display covered in Gorilla Glass 5, making it comparable in size to Samsung's Galaxy S24 Ultra. The large 5,000mAh battery and wireless charging capabilities make the most of the extra space, and the inclusion of a 3.5mm headphone jack is a rare treat in 2025.
In comparison, the standard Moto G model, priced at $199.99, offers a similar design but with a smaller 6.7-inch display and limited IP52 protection. However, both phones share the same MediaTek chipset and 50-megapixel rear cameras, ensuring comparable performance.
The big question mark surrounding the Moto G Power is its software. Last year's model was criticized for excessive pre-installed bloatware, and it remains to be seen if Motorola has addressed this issue in the 2025 model.
The unlocked Moto G will be available online at Motorola.com, Amazon, and Best Buy starting January 30th, with the Moto G Power following on February 6th. Both devices will be stocked by major carriers over the following months.
The 2025 Moto G Power's impressive specifications and unbeatable price make it a game-changer in the budget smartphone market. With its rugged design, wireless charging, and large battery, this device is poised to appeal to consumers seeking a reliable and affordable smartphone option.
