Dangote Refinery Raises Alarm Over Substandard Petroleum Products

Nigeria's Dangote refinery has sounded the alarm over the importation of substandard petroleum products into the country, citing the lack of laboratory facilities by the Nigerian oil regulatory body to detect these products.

The refinery claims that these substandard products, including everyday goods and vehicle parts, are being brought into the country by marketers in collaboration with international traders. This has led to concerns over market quality and consumer safety.

Dangote refinery has set its ex-depot price of petrol at N990 per litre for trucks and N960 for ships, benchmarked against international prices. The refinery has accused the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) of not having the required laboratory facilities to detect substandard products imported into the country.

This development raises concerns over the quality of petroleum products in Nigeria and the ability of the regulatory body to ensure consumer safety. It also highlights the need for improved infrastructure and facilities to detect and prevent the importation of substandard products.
