LG has announced significant upgrades to its ultra-light Gram and Gram Pro laptop lineup, introducing on-device AI-powered features, cloud-based AI capabilities, and the latest Intel processors. The new laptops are designed to provide users with enhanced productivity, seamless connectivity, and advanced AI-driven tools.
The 16-inch Gram Pro will be the first Copilot Plus PC in the LG Gram lineup, featuring Intel's Lunar Lake Core Ultra V-Series processors. The 17-inch Gram Pro and 16-inch 2-in-1 models will be powered by Intel's Arrow Lake Core Ultra H-Series processors. These processors promise to deliver improved performance, power efficiency, and advanced AI capabilities.
The LG Gram Pro laptops will come in 17-inch and 16-inch models, boasting 2,560 x 1,600 displays, up to 32GB of LPDDR5X memory, and up to 2TB Gen4 NVMe SSDs. The 16-inch Gram Pro and the 16-inch LG Gram Pro 2-in-1 will feature Intel Arc GPUs, while the 17-inch Gram Pro will sport an Nvidia GeForce RTX4050 graphics card.
One of the standout features of the new Gram laptops is Gram Chat On-Device, which utilizes a "small language model derived from LG AI Research's EXAONE large language model" to power offline AI capabilities. This includes Time Travel, a feature that allows users to quickly revisit recently accessed web pages, documents, videos, and audio files. LG's software is positioning itself as a competitor to Microsoft's Copilot Plus suite and Apple Intelligence, although it remains to be seen how it will measure up in real-world usage.
In addition to on-device AI features, the Gram laptops will also come with Gram Chat Cloud, powered by OpenAI's GPT-4o. This cloud-based AI feature responds to inquiries using vast web-based datasets and integrates with calendar and email services. However, it requires an active internet connection and will only be free for the first year.
Another notable feature of the new Gram laptops is LG's Gram Link 2.0, which enables seamless document and file sharing with other PCs and iOS or Android-based smartphones. It also allows users to answer incoming phone calls through the Gram laptops, eliminating the need to swap headsets or Bluetooth headphones between devices.
LG will also be introducing its entry-level Gram Book to the US market next year. Powered by an Intel Core i5 processor, the Gram Book features a 15.6-inch 60Hz full HD display, a 720p webcam, and configurations of up to 1TB of SSD storage and 16GB of DDR4 memory.
The upgraded Gram laptops demonstrate LG's commitment to delivering innovative, AI-driven solutions to its customers. With the integration of on-device and cloud-based AI features, LG is poised to take on established players in the laptop market. As the tech industry continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how LG's new Gram laptops fare in terms of adoption and user satisfaction.
