ESR Launches MagMouse: A Magnetic Travel Mouse with a Twist

ESR, a well-known brand in the tech accessories space, has launched a unique travel mouse on Kickstarter that's sure to turn heads. The MagMouse, priced at $36, boasts a magnetic design that allows it to stick to laptops, making it a convenient and space-saving solution for travelers. But unlike what its name might suggest, it's not a MagSafe-compatible device.

The MagMouse features a lightweight 75-gram design, Bluetooth and 2.4GHz wireless connectivity, and a built-in USB-C charge cable that folds into its belly. The mouse also comes with a magnetic docking pad, which is designed to securely hold the device in place. According to ESR, the mouse's 4800dpi optical sensor and seven-button design provide a responsive and quiet user experience.

One of the most interesting aspects of the MagMouse is its magnetic capabilities. While it doesn't stick to MagSafe-compatible devices like iPhones or Samsung Galaxy phones, it does adhere to ESR's own magnetic laptop docking pad. The pad features a washable, reusable sticky gel surface that provides a strong grip, but also makes it a bit harder to slide a laptop into a tight sleeve.

Despite its innovative design, the MagMouse has some limitations. For instance, it's not recommended to stick it to third-party magnetic rings, and it doesn't charge wirelessly or magnetically. These omissions might be a disappointment for some users, especially considering the device's magnetic capabilities. However, the MagMouse does stick beautifully to certain magnetic rings, such as the Shinewee double magnet ring.

ESR plans to start shipping the MagMouse to Kickstarter backers on June 6th. As with any crowdfunded product, it's essential to exercise caution and carefully consider the risks involved. While the risk is generally low for a completed product with a short timeline, the import situation is currently uncertain due to Trump's tariffs.

The MagMouse's unique design and features make it an intriguing option for travelers and users who value convenience and portability. However, its limitations and lack of compatibility with MagSafe devices might be a deal-breaker for some. As the product begins to ship, it will be interesting to see how users respond to this innovative take on the traditional travel mouse.
