LG and Samsung Integrate Microsoft's Copilot AI Assistant into 2025 Smart TVs

At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) this weekend, LG and Samsung unveiled their 2025 smart TVs, featuring a notable addition: Microsoft's Copilot AI assistant. Both manufacturers are jumping on the artificial intelligence bandwagon, incorporating dedicated AI sections into their TVs, complete with a shortcut to a Copilot web app.

LG is taking a bold step by introducing an entire AI section to its TVs and rebranding its remote to "AI Remote." The company claims that Copilot will enable users to "efficiently find and organize complex information using contextual cues." However, LG has yet to demonstrate its Copilot integration, leaving many questions unanswered. The company has showcased its own AI Chatbot, which appears to surface Copilot when users search for more information on a particular subject.

Samsung, on the other hand, is highlighting its AI Vision features, including AI upscaling, Auto HDR Remastering, and Adaptive Sound Pro. A new AI button on the remote allows users to access AI features like recognizing food on a screen or AI home security features that analyze video feeds from smart cameras. Microsoft's Copilot will be part of this Vision AI section, enabling users to explore a range of Copilot services, including personalized content recommendations.

Despite the announcements, details on how Copilot will function on these TVs remain scarce. Samsung declined to provide more information or images of Copilot in action, while LG and Microsoft have also remained tight-lipped. The lack of clarity has led some to speculate that Copilot on TVs may be nothing more than a web app, rather than a deeply integrated AI feature.

The move to incorporate Copilot into smart TVs is likely a response to the growing trend of artificial intelligence in consumer technology. However, without a clear understanding of how Copilot will enhance the user experience, it's difficult to assess the significance of this integration. As the tech industry continues to push the boundaries of AI, it's essential for manufacturers to provide transparency and clarity on the capabilities and limitations of their AI-powered features.

The integration of Copilot into LG and Samsung's 2025 smart TVs may be a step towards creating more intelligent and personalized viewing experiences. However, until more information is available, it's challenging to determine whether this feature will be a game-changer or simply a gimmick. As the industry continues to evolve, it's crucial for manufacturers to prioritize transparency and user understanding in their AI initiatives.
