Honda and Acura to Join Tesla's Supercharger Network in June

Honda and its luxury brand, Acura, are set to join the growing list of automakers providing EV owners access to Tesla's Supercharger network in North America, marking a significant expansion of electric vehicle (EV) charging options in the region.

Starting in June, owners of the Honda Prologue and Acura ZDX electric vehicles will be able to charge at Tesla's stations, despite the fact that these EVs are built with CCS (Combined Charging System) charging ports, which differ from Tesla's proprietary technology. To facilitate this, Honda and Acura customers will need to purchase Honda-approved fast-charging adapters from dealerships, although pricing details have not been disclosed.

The adapters will enable Honda and Acura EV owners to tap into Tesla's vast Supercharger network, which boasts over 30,000 stations across North America. This development is a result of Honda's agreement in 2023 to adopt Tesla's charging standard, known as NACS (North American Charging Standard), with plans to release a new EV model in 2025 built with the NACS standard.

Owners of the Prologue and ZDX will be notified through the HondaLink and Acura EV apps when the adapters become available for purchase. The apps will also display the locations of authorized Supercharger locations, making it easier for EV owners to plan their charging stops.

This move is part of a broader trend, with several other automakers, including Ford, General Motors, Lucid, and Rivian, already providing access to Tesla's Supercharger network. As the EV market continues to grow, collaborations like this are expected to play a crucial role in expanding charging infrastructure and alleviating range anxiety for EV owners.

While Honda has not provided an updated timeline for its NACS-based EV model, this development is a significant step forward in the company's electrification strategy. As the industry moves towards a more standardized and interconnected charging ecosystem, Honda's decision to join Tesla's Supercharger network is likely to have a positive impact on the overall EV ownership experience.

With the addition of Honda and Acura to the list of participating automakers, Tesla's Supercharger network is poised to become an even more comprehensive and convenient option for EV owners across North America. As the EV landscape continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how this collaboration shapes the future of electric vehicle charging.
