HMD has announced a game-changing innovation in the world of earbuds with the launch of its Amped Buds, which come with a Qi2 charging case that doubles as a backup phone battery. This clever concept allows users to charge their phone on-the-go, eliminating the need to carry a separate power bank.
The Amped Buds themselves feature active noise cancellation and environmental noise cancellation, ensuring an immersive listening experience. The earbuds are IP54 splash-resistant, while the case is rated IPX4 for dust resistance. The case measures 14mm thick and has a hinge design that allows the buds to fit in seamlessly for charging. The buds are designed with a spring-loaded mechanism, providing a satisfying "pop" when inserted or removed from the case.
The case is portable and compact, making it easy to carry around. It supports Qi2 wireless charging, allowing it to connect magnetically to compatible phones for secure charging. The case can also be used with magnetic phone cases or any wireless charging phone, although the fit may not be as secure. Additionally, the case features a USB port for wired charging. According to HMD, the case can charge the earbuds over 10 times, providing up to 95 hours of music playback time before needing to be recharged.
The Amped Buds are priced at €199 (approximately $206) and are set to launch in April, although it is unclear if they will be available in the US market. The earbuds and case come in three color options: cyan, black, and pink.
HMD's innovative solution addresses a common pain point for many users, who often find themselves running low on phone battery throughout the day. By integrating a phone charger into the earbuds' case, HMD has created a convenient and practical solution that eliminates the need to carry a separate power bank. This move is likely to resonate with consumers who value convenience and portability in their tech products.
The launch of the Amped Buds comes on the heels of HMD's announcements at MWC, where the company unveiled a range of new products, including an FC Barcelona-branded phone and a safety-focused phone for teens developed in partnership with Xplora. While these products are certainly noteworthy, the Amped Buds stand out as a particularly innovative and practical solution that is likely to gain significant traction in the market.
As the wearables market continues to evolve, HMD's Amped Buds represent a significant step forward in terms of convenience, portability, and innovation. With its clever design and practical features, the Amped Buds are likely to appeal to a wide range of consumers, from casual listeners to tech enthusiasts.
