Google Fiber has revamped its internet plans in Huntsville, Alabama, and Nashville, Tennessee, introducing three new options: Core 1 Gig, Home 3 Gig, and Edge 8 Gig. The new plans, which launched last month, aim to simplify the company's existing offerings and provide customers with faster speeds and improved features.

The Core 1 Gig plan, priced at $70 per month, offers symmetrical 1 gigabit per second upload and download speeds, making it an attractive option for those seeking reliable and fast internet connectivity. This plan comes with Google Fiber's Multi-Gig Wi-Fi 6E Router and supports up to one mesh extender.

The Home 3 Gig plan, available for $100 per month, sits between the previous 2 Gig and 5 Gig options. It offers up to 3-gig speeds, a GFiber Multi-Gig Wi-Fi 6E router, and up to two mesh extenders. Additionally, subscribers can enjoy priority room optimization, which provides "additional wired connectivity to the rooms that matter most." For an extra $10 per month, customers can add an internet battery backup, ensuring up to two hours of "full-bandwidth uptime" in case of a power outage.

The top-tier Edge 8 Gig "always-on" plan, priced at $150 per month, boasts upload and download speeds of up to 8 gigabits per second. This plan includes the same GFiber Wi-Fi 6E router, up to two mesh extenders, and priority room optimization. Furthermore, it offers up to 5,000 square feet of coverage, an included internet backup battery, and a 25 percent refund if the internet goes down for over 45 minutes.

While it remains unclear whether Google Fiber will expand these new plans to more cities, the company has been gradually expanding its fiber footprint across the US since its inception in 2010. Last year, Google rolled out a 20-gig Wi-Fi 7 plan in select cities, demonstrating its commitment to providing faster and more reliable internet connections.
