Spotify Enhances Audiobook Experience with Video Clips, Author Pages

Spotify is taking its audiobook offering to the next level with three new experiments designed to bring listeners closer to their favorite authors and stories. The music streaming giant is introducing video clips, author pages, and immersive visuals to create a more engaging experience for premium users.

The video clips, up to 30 seconds long, will allow authors or publishers to submit behind-the-scenes footage, interviews, or messages to accompany their audiobooks. This feature aligns with Spotify's growing investment in video content, which has seen significant growth in popularity since the launch of music videos and video podcasts.

In addition to video clips, Spotify is also piloting "Follow Along," a feature that provides a more immersive experience by displaying illustrations, photos, and graphics that appear where the book cover typically is on the screen. The platform is also introducing "Author Pages," dedicated profiles that showcase authors' backgrounds, works, and other relevant information, making it easier for users to explore an author's entire catalog.

These features are currently live for premium listeners in all markets where Spotify audiobooks are available, including the U.S., the U.K., Australia, Canada, France, Belgium, Ireland, New Zealand, Netherlands, and Luxembourg. However, only select authors and publishers have access, and the features are mobile-only for now.
