Cosmonic Launches wasmCloud-Based Enterprise Control Plane for Distributed Applications

Cosmonic has announced the launch of Cosmonic Control, an enterprise control plane designed to manage distributed applications across various deployment environments, including cloud, edge, Kubernetes, and on-premises infrastructure. Introduced on March 24, this innovative solution leverages the WebAssembly binary instruction format to provide a unified control plane for platform engineering teams.

Cosmonic Control is built on top of wasmCloud, a WebAssembly-based orchestration platform for building Wasm apps, which is co-maintained by Cosmonic. This control plane enables platform engineers to create polyglot golden templates and components, allowing developers to write applications and deploy them anywhere, without worrying about the underlying infrastructure.

The need for a solution like Cosmonic Control arises from the challenges of scaling and distributing applications on containerized platforms. According to Cosmonic, more than 80% of container spend is wasted due to long cold-start times and other issues, while 50% of development time is spent on patching dependencies and maintaining boilerplate code. Cosmonic Control addresses these challenges by providing a unified control plane for managing WebAssembly workloads from a single interface, enabling platform engineering teams to maintain and update applications at scale while allowing developers to build new features.

The benefits of Cosmonic Control are multifaceted. For instance, it scales applications to zero with zero cold starts, executes in a tiny footprint, and lowers cloud costs. Additionally, platform engineers can fit more workloads on existing hardware, while developers can build Wasm components, which are small units of code that interoperate with other components written in any other language. Secure Wasm sandboxes ensure that each component operates safely, providing an additional layer of security.

Cosmonic Control also introduces a Bring Your Own Cloud (BYOC) service, which allows customers to deploy WasmCloud infrastructure inside their own cloud. This provides platform engineering teams with access to an enterprise-grade suite of observability tools, guardrails, and control, ensuring their platform can scale efficiently.

Interested parties can book a demo of Cosmonic Control to experience the benefits of this innovative solution firsthand. With its launch, Cosmonic Control is poised to revolutionize the way platform engineering teams manage distributed applications, providing a unified control plane that simplifies deployment, scaling, and maintenance across diverse infrastructure environments.

The implications of Cosmonic Control are far-reaching, with potential to transform the way enterprises approach application development and deployment. As the technology landscape continues to evolve, solutions like Cosmonic Control will play a critical role in enabling businesses to stay agile, secure, and competitive in an increasingly complex digital landscape.
