Samsung's Z Fold 7 Leaked Renders Reveal Thinner Design, Larger Screens

Samsung's next-generation foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Fold 7, is expected to boast a significantly thinner design, according to new leaked renders. The images, created by OnLeaks based on leaked information, suggest that the Z Fold 7 will measure just 4.5mm thick when open, making it one of the thinnest foldable phones on the market.

The Z Fold 7's dimensions put it in close competition with the current thinnest foldable phone, Oppo's Find N5, which measures 4.2mm thick. The previous record-holder, Honor's Magic V3, comes in at 4.4mm. Samsung's current Z Fold 6, on the other hand, measures 5.6mm thick, and Google's Pixel 9 Pro Fold is 5.1mm thick. The OnePlus Open is the thickest at 5.8mm, and the company has already confirmed it has no plans for a new foldable model this year.

The leaked renders also reveal that the Z Fold 7 will feature larger screens, with an 8.2-inch inner screen and a 6.5-inch outer one. This is a significant upgrade from the previous generation, and it's unclear how Samsung has managed to fit the same 4,400mAh battery into a thinner design. One possibility is that the company has optimized the phone's internal components to make room for the larger screens.

In addition to its thinner design and larger screens, the Z Fold 7 is expected to feature upgraded camera capabilities, including a new 200-megapixel main camera. The phone will also be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, according to Android Headlines. The Z Fold 7 is expected to launch in July 2025, alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 7.

It's worth noting that the Z Fold 7's dimensions when closed are still unclear. The report suggests that the phone will be 9.5mm thick counting the camera bump, and closer to 9mm without, but this doesn't quite add up. The camera bump itself appears to be more than 0.5mm thick, protruding extensively from the body in the new images.

The launch of the Z Fold 7 will be closely watched, as Samsung looks to regain ground in the foldable phone market. The company has been rumored to be working on a trifold phone, but it's unclear if this will be announced at the same event. Leaker Max Jambor has suggested that the trifold phone will instead launch "at a later point in time."

As the foldable phone market continues to evolve, Samsung's Z Fold 7 is shaping up to be a major player. With its thinner design, larger screens, and upgraded camera capabilities, the phone is likely to appeal to consumers looking for a premium foldable experience. Whether Samsung can regain its lead in the market remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: the Z Fold 7 is a significant upgrade over its predecessor.
