Anysphere, the company behind the AI-powered code editor Cursor, has acquired AI coding assistant Supermaven for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition is expected to enable Anysphere to launch a new version of its Tab AI model that's "fast, context-aware, and highly intelligent," especially for sequences of long code.
Supermaven's plugins will remain maintained, and its team will join forces with Anysphere to focus on developing Cursor. Supermaven's founder, Jacob Jackson, previously co-founded Tabnine, another AI coding assistant, and had raised $12 million from investors including Bessemer Venture Partners and OpenAI co-founder John Schulman.
The acquisition comes as Anysphere receives unsolicited offers valuing the company at up to $2.5 billion. The market for AI coding tools is growing rapidly, with Polaris Research projecting it to be worth $27.17 billion by 2032. Anysphere's revenue has grown to $4 million a month, making it one of the more popular AI-powered coding assistance options.
