OpenAI has officially released Sora, its highly-anticipated text-to-video AI model, as part of its 12-day "ship-mas" product release series. The tool is now available on Sora.com for ChatGPT subscribers in the US and most other countries, offering a range of features that enable users to generate high-quality videos from text prompts.
Sora is a significant development in the field of artificial intelligence, allowing users to create 1080p videos up to 20 seconds long with the $200 per month ChatGPT Pro plan. This marks a major milestone in the evolution of AI-powered content creation, with potential applications in various industries such as marketing, entertainment, and education.
The ChatGPT Pro subscription offers "unlimited generations" and up to 500 priority videos, allowing subscribers to download videos without a watermark and perform up to five generations simultaneously. In contrast, the ChatGPT Plus subscription, which costs less, offers up to 50 priority videos (1,000 credits) at resolutions up to 720p with 5-second durations.
Sora's features go beyond simple video generation, offering advanced capabilities such as animating images, remixing videos, and creating storyboards based on a sequence of prompts. The tool also includes a "remix" feature that allows users to tweak Sora's output with a text prompt, as well as a "blend" feature that enables the combination of two scenes together.
The release of Sora comes on the heels of controversy, as a group of artists who claimed to be part of OpenAI's alpha testing program leaked the product in protest of being used for what they claimed was "unpaid R&D and PR." Despite this, OpenAI has pushed forward with the launch, showcasing Sora's capabilities through a livestream and a preview by tech reviewer Marques Brownlee, aka MKBHD.
The implications of Sora's release are far-reaching, with potential applications in various industries and the potential to democratize video content creation. As AI technology continues to advance, it will be interesting to see how tools like Sora shape the future of content creation and consumption.
In the meantime, OpenAI's Sora is set to revolutionize the way we approach video creation, offering a powerful tool that can be leveraged by creators, marketers, and businesses alike. With its advanced features and capabilities, Sora is poised to make a significant impact in the world of AI-powered content creation.
