Amazon Web Services (AWS) CEO Matt Garman has sent a clear message to employees who are resistant to the company's return-to-office mandate: either comply or find a new job.
In a recent internal meeting, Garman reportedly told employees who are unhappy with the five-day in-person work policy that there are other companies they can work for remotely. This statement comes on the heels of Amazon CEO Andy Jassy's announcement last month that the company would be transitioning to a full return-to-office policy in 2025.
Garman's comments align with a growing trend among tech companies that are pushing for a return to in-person work. Earlier this year, Dell reportedly indicated that employees who do not return to the office would not be considered for promotions.
However, the preference for remote work remains strong among many employees. Studies have shown that a significant portion of remote workers would be willing to quit their jobs if they were forced to return to the office.
Amazon did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Garman's remarks. As the company continues to implement its return-to-office policy, it remains to be seen how employees will react and whether the company will face challenges in retaining its workforce.
