Acer Debuts AMD-Powered Swift Go Laptops with AI Capabilities

Acer has made a significant move in the laptop market by introducing its Swift Go 16 AI and Swift Go 14 AI Copilot Plus laptops, powered by AMD Ryzen AI 300-series processors. This marks a departure from the company's previous reliance on Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite chips for its Swift Go 14 Copilot Plus laptop.

The new laptops boast impressive specifications, including up to an AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 processor, which features eight cores, 16 threads, and an up to 5.0GHz boost clock. Additionally, the Swift Go AI laptops come equipped with a neural processing unit (NPU) running AMD's XDNA 2 architecture with up to 50 TOPS, as well as AMD Radeon 800M graphics.

In terms of display options, users can choose between an OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate or an IPS touch panel. The laptops also feature up to 32GB of low-power DDR5X SDRAM, a 1440p HDR webcam, and impressive battery life, with up to 24.9 hours of video playback on the Swift Go 14 AI and up to 18 hours on the Swift Go 16 AI.

The Swift Go 14 AI is set to launch in May, starting at $899.99, while the Swift Go 16 AI will arrive in April, starting at $949.99. This move by Acer is significant, as it expands the availability of AI features, such as Recall and live translation, to Copilot Plus PCs running AMD and Intel chips, which were previously only available on Qualcomm-equipped devices.

In addition to the AI-powered laptops, Acer also revealed a pair of non-AI Swift Go laptops, powered by Intel's Core Ultra 9 285H processor and Intel Arc graphics. These laptops will start at the same prices as their Copilot Plus counterparts, offering users a range of options to suit their needs.

Furthermore, Acer has introduced a new Aspire Vero 16 laptop, which boasts an "easy-to-repair" design with a chassis made of more than 70 percent "post-consumer recycled plastic and bio-based oyster shell material." The Aspire Vero features up to an Intel Core Ultra 7 255H processor and Intel Arc graphics, and will start at $799.99 when it launches in April.

The introduction of these new laptops marks a significant shift in Acer's strategy, as the company looks to expand its offerings and cater to a wider range of users. With the growing demand for AI-powered devices, Acer's move to incorporate AMD Ryzen AI 300-series processors into its Swift Go laptops is likely to resonate with consumers.

As the laptop market continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how Acer's new offerings fare against competitors. One thing is certain, however – the company's decision to diversify its processor options and focus on AI capabilities is a significant step forward in the world of laptops.
