8BitDo, a renowned gaming peripheral manufacturer, has announced the launch of its latest innovation - the Ultimate Mini Xbox controller. This miniature gamepad is specifically designed for kids, teens, and gamers with smaller hands who struggle with the size and weight of standard controllers.
The Ultimate Mini is a remarkable 20% smaller and 10% lighter than its predecessor, the Ultimate C wired Xbox controller. Weighing in at just 189.6 grams, it's significantly lighter than the Xbox Series S and X controllers, including batteries, and less than half the weight of the original Xbox's "The Duke" controller.
Despite its compact size, the Ultimate Mini still features full-sized triggers, joysticks, and buttons, ensuring an immersive gaming experience. The controller's layout is identical to larger Xbox controllers, with the action buttons, directional pad, and drift-resistant magnetic Hall effect joysticks positioned closer together. Additionally, the controller boasts Hall effect triggers on the back and slightly smaller shoulder buttons.
One of the standout features of the Ultimate Mini is its interactive lighting system, dubbed the Fire Ring. A ring of LEDs surrounding each joystick offers various lighting modes that react to button presses, cycle through different colors, or follow the direction of joystick movement. The controller's translucent shell, available in white, pink, or green, allows the LEDs to glow more prominently.
In terms of compatibility, the Ultimate Mini is designed to work seamlessly with the Xbox One, Xbox Series S and X, and PCs running Windows 10 or 11. However, it's worth noting that the controller does not offer wireless connectivity, which helps keep it lightweight and eliminates the need for batteries. This design choice may be a concern for parents whose children are prone to rage-quitting games and throwing their controllers, as the tethered design lacks a breakaway connector.
The 8BitDo Ultimate Mini is now available for purchase in the US through Amazon and 8BitDo's online store, priced at $34.99. This affordable and compact controller is poised to become a popular choice among gamers with smaller hands, offering a more comfortable and enjoyable gaming experience.
As the gaming industry continues to evolve, innovations like the Ultimate Mini demonstrate a growing focus on accessibility and inclusivity. By catering to gamers with smaller hands, 8BitDo is helping to break down barriers and create a more diverse gaming community.
