Gabor Cselle, the former CEO and co-founder of Pebble, a Twitter challenger, has joined OpenAI to work on a secretive project. Cselle announced the news on X, the social network formerly known as Twitter, saying he would share more about the project "in due time."
Cselle brings a wealth of experience to OpenAI, having sold his first company, reMail, to Google, and his second company, Namo Media, to Twitter. He also worked at Twitter as a group product manager before leaving for Google's Area 120 incubator. Cselle co-founded Pebble in 2022, which raised funding from investors including Android co-founder Rich Miner, but ultimately shut down last October.
The hiring of Cselle by OpenAI comes as the AI startup community is abuzz with news of high-profile recruits. Just this weekend, Anthropic, a rival of OpenAI, announced the hiring of Embark founder Alex Rodrigues as an AI safety researcher. The moves signal a growing interest in AI research and development, and the talent wars heating up in the space.
