Volvo ES90 to Boast Faster Charging, Longer Range than Previous EVs

Volvo is gearing up to unveil its latest electric sedan, the ES90, on March 5th, and the Swedish automaker has dropped some tantalizing details about the car's range and charging capabilities. According to Volvo, the ES90 will be able to charge faster and drive farther than any of its previous electric vehicles, making it a compelling option for those looking for a high-tech EV.

Volvo's decision to adopt an 800-volt architecture is part of a broader industry trend towards higher voltage systems. To support the higher voltage system, Volvo had to upgrade several components, including battery cells, motors, inverters, and thermal parts.

Furthermore, Volvo is introducing a new, in-house-developed battery management software, provided by Breathe Battery Technologies, which will reduce the time it takes to charge from 10 to 80 percent by up to 30 percent, down to 20 minutes.

Beyond its impressive performance, the ES90 also boasts several eco-friendly features. The car will feature a significant amount of recycled materials, including 29 percent of the aluminum, 16 percent of polymers, and 18 percent of steel. The wood panels inside the ES90 are made from FSC-certified wood, and Volvo is introducing a new blockchain-based battery "passport" to track raw materials like lithium, cobalt, nickel, and graphite used in the battery.

The ES90's unveiling on March 5th is highly anticipated, and its impressive specs are likely to generate significant buzz in the EV community.
