Xthings is set to shake up the security camera market with the launch of its portable Ulticam Dot, which boasts an unprecedented seven days of free cloud storage for recordings, a feature that sets it apart from its competitors. The wireless camera, initially announced at CES last year, will finally hit the market in Q1 2025, alongside the outdoor-ready Ulticam IQ, which is slated for release later in the year.
The free cloud storage offering is a significant departure from the industry norm, where most security camera manufacturers charge for cloud storage or offer limited free storage options. Xthings' commitment to providing seven days of free cloud storage, with the option to extend retention beyond that with an optional subscription, is a bold move that could disrupt the market.
The Ulticam Dot is a battery-powered security camera designed for portability, featuring a magnetic base that allows for easy attachment to any vertical surface. The camera itself can be panned and tilted to achieve the perfect angle, making it a convenient option for travel or temporary installations. The Dot also supports night vision, real-time person and motion alerts, two-way audio, and a siren, with 8GB of onboard storage for saving clips locally. Additionally, it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Home.
Xthings is also expanding its product lineup with the Ulticam IQ, a high-end wired home security camera designed for exterior use. The IQ will be available in Q1 2025, with a floodlight variant arriving in Q2. Both cameras will feature 2K resolution, with 4K versions set to launch in Q2. The IQ cameras boast a built-in motion-activated spotlight, with the upgraded model adding two floodlights for enhanced illumination and color night vision. They also feature AI-powered motion detection of vehicles and specific faces, with four configurable zones, all processed on-device.
Both the Dot and IQ cameras will come with seven-day cloud storage and 8GB of onboard storage, with the option to expand storage up to 128GB with an SD card. This emphasis on storage and cloud connectivity highlights Xthings' focus on providing users with a comprehensive security solution.
The launch of the Ulticam Dot and IQ cameras marks a significant milestone for Xthings, which is poised to make a significant impact on the security camera market. With its innovative approach to cloud storage and feature-rich product lineup, the company is well-positioned to attract users seeking reliable and convenient security solutions.
As the security camera market continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how Xthings' competitors respond to this new benchmark for cloud storage. One thing is certain, however – the launch of the Ulticam Dot and IQ cameras marks a significant shift in the industry, and users are set to reap the benefits.
