Uber and Delta Air Lines have announced an exclusive partnership, allowing Delta SkyMiles members in the United States to earn points when they ride with Uber or order delivery through Uber Eats. This strategic tie-up aims to further align Uber with airport travel, a historically lucrative segment for the ride-hailing giant.

Starting Tuesday, Uber customers who joined the waitlist can link their accounts, while everyone else can start linking on Thursday. Once linked, Uber users with Delta SkyMiles memberships can earn miles in the following ways: 1 mile per dollar spent on Uber Eats orders above $40, 1 mile per dollar spent on UberX rides to and from airports, 2 miles per dollar spent on Uber Comfort or Uber Black, and 3 miles per dollar spent on Ubers booked in advance through Uber Reserve.

Notably, Uber riders cannot stack up miles by reserving an airport ride, but they will receive SkyMiles from the trip that yields the highest reward. An Uber spokesperson clarified that customers will earn miles based on the trip that provides the most rewards.

Beyond the SkyMiles rewards, Uber and Delta are integrating their services in other ways. Customers who buy a flight using the Fly Delta app will be able to add an Uber Reserve booking, allowing them to reserve their ride to and from the airport. Later this year, SkyMiles members who log into WiFi on their flights will receive an offer of 30% off to book an Uber for pickup when they land.

This partnership is a significant expansion of Uber's airport presence, following the successful launch of its affordable Airport Shuttle product in New York City. The company plans to expand this service to Atlanta, further solidifying its position in the airport travel market.
