Tubi Unveils 'Scenes' Feature to Boost User Engagement

Tubi, the free ad-supported streaming service owned by Fox, has launched a new feature called "Scenes" to set itself apart from rivals like Pluto TV and the Roku Channel. The feature allows users to explore short clips from over 250,000 popular TV shows and movies, including classics like "Django Unchained" and "The Amazing Spider-Man".

The aim of Scenes is to boost user engagement and content discoverability, especially among younger audiences whose viewing habits are shifting in the rapidly changing streaming landscape. Unlike TikTok, which is reportedly experimenting with minute-long, TV-style shows, Tubi is focusing on using short clips to help viewers discover content from its library and encourage them to watch full episodes.

The Scenes feature is available on Tubi's mobile app on both iOS and Android devices, and users can swipe through a vertical feed to watch trailer-style videos lasting between 60 and 90 seconds. The feature also includes personalized recommendations based on user preferences, and users can cast Scenes on their TVs using supported devices like Apple TV, Chromecast, Fire TV, and Roku.

Tubi's chief product and technology officer, Mike Bidgoli, hinted that the company may integrate Scenes into the home grid and allow users to share clips on social media in future iterations. However, Bidgoli emphasized the importance of ensuring the integrity of the platform, especially if a comment function is added in the future.

The launch of Scenes marks a significant shift in Tubi's strategy to attract more users, especially younger audiences, and increase its competitiveness in the streaming market. With its focus on mobile app experiences, Tubi is poised to become a major player in the rapidly evolving streaming landscape.
