Tesla's Cybertruck Range Extender Disappears from Website, Raising Concerns

Tesla's Cybertruck range extender, a $16,000 add-on that was supposed to give the electric pickup a whopping 445 miles of range on a single charge, has mysteriously disappeared from the company's website. The move has left many wondering if the accessory has been canceled altogether.

The Cybertruck Range Extender was first announced at the vehicle's delivery event, promising to significantly boost the truck's range. Initially, Tesla claimed the tri-motor Cybertruck would go over 500 miles on a charge for around $70,000, without the need for an add-on battery. However, the estimated range was later downgraded to 470 miles in 2024.

As of now, the highest range Cybertruck available for order is the 325-mile dual-motor AWD model, priced at $79,990. The tri-motor "Cyberbeast" model, which was supposed to benefit from the range extender, can only manage 301 miles on a single charge, costing $99,990. The removal of the range extender option from the website has raised concerns about Tesla's ability to deliver on its promises.

What's more, Tesla has been collecting a $2,000 non-refundable fee from customers who reserved the battery extender. It's unclear what the company plans to do with this money if the accessory doesn't make it to market. This development comes at a time when Tesla is facing significant challenges, including a 13% year-over-year decline in sales, partly due to CEO Elon Musk's involvement in the Trump Administration.

The Cybertruck itself has not been a commercial success, with reportedly only 50,000 units sold in 2024, despite Tesla claiming to have received over one million reservations. The removal of the range extender option has sparked speculation about the company's strategy and its ability to compete in the increasingly crowded electric vehicle market.

While Tesla has not officially canceled the range extender, its disappearance from the website has raised more questions than answers. The company's silence on the matter has only added to the uncertainty, leaving customers and investors alike wondering what's next for the Cybertruck and Tesla's electric vehicle ambitions.

As the electric vehicle landscape continues to evolve, Tesla's struggles with the Cybertruck range extender serve as a reminder of the challenges faced by companies pushing the boundaries of innovation. With competitors like Rivian and Ford gaining ground, Tesla will need to address these concerns and deliver on its promises to remain a leader in the EV market.
