Swizzle Ventures, a new venture fund founded by Jessica Kamada, former COO of marketing agency Bamboo, has raised just over $5 million for its Fund I, according to a recent SEC filing. The firm, which quietly opened its doors in 2023, is an early-stage investor focused on startups that address some of the most pressing concerns facing women, including caretaking, health and wellness, and finances.
Kamada, who did not respond to requests for comment, has a strong background in growth marketing and operations. Prior to founding Swizzle Ventures, she served as the vice president of growth marketing and later as COO at Bamboo, where she was also a member of the board of directors. Additionally, she has experience as a growth advisor at RedDrop, a company that provides menstrual education to tweens. Bamboo is known for its work with startups and tech firms like Great Jones, Lemonaid, and Dropbox.
Swizzle Ventures has already invested in at least one company, according to PitchBook data. The mental health care platform Mavida Health has received funding from the venture fund, although the exact amount remains undisclosed. This investment signals Swizzle Ventures' commitment to supporting startups that prioritize women's health and wellness.
The launch of Swizzle Ventures comes at a critical time for innovation targeting women. The caregiving industry is currently undergoing a crisis due to the high cost of supporting ailing family members, while women are poised to experience a historic boom in finances from the predicted upcoming "wealth transfer". Furthermore, women's health has always been a hot topic, and the recent overturn of Roe v. Wade has only added to the urgency for innovative solutions in this space.
Swizzle Ventures' focus on women-centric startups is a welcome development in the venture capital industry, which has historically been dominated by male-led funds. By targeting startups that address the unique challenges faced by women, Swizzle Ventures is well-positioned to drive meaningful change and generate strong returns on investment.
As the venture capital landscape continues to evolve, Swizzle Ventures is an important new player to watch. With its focus on early-stage startups and women-centric solutions, the fund has the potential to make a significant impact on the industry and drive positive change for women around the world.
