SwitchBot, a company known for its innovative smart home solutions, has unveiled its latest creation at CES: the Multitasking Household Robot K20 Plus Pro. This modular robot vacuum is designed to perform a variety of tasks, including cleaning, air purification, home monitoring, and spot cooling, making it a significant step towards creating a Rosie the Robot-like experience in the home.
The K20 Plus Pro is built around SwitchBot's mini robot vacuum, which attaches to a new "FusionPlatform" – a circular device on wheels that connects to various SwitchBot devices. This platform enables the robot to deliver items around the house, act as a security camera, purify the air, or provide spot cooling with its fan. The company also plans to add more features, including a mechanical arm, which would further enhance the robot's capabilities.
The robot navigates using a map created by its lidar-equipped device, allowing it to move steadily and effortlessly over everyday barriers with "centimeter-level accuracy in avoiding obstacles and navigating tight spaces." The FusionPlatform has various power ports, including USB-C, enabling users to plug in custom-made attachments, 3D-printed components, and third-party devices with multiple power ports.
The K20 Plus Pro can be controlled using the SwitchBot app or with voice commands through Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple's Siri Shortcuts. The robot can perform tasks autonomously using automations set up in the app, such as purifying the air upon entry into a room. The platform's modular approach is expected to keep costs down, making it a more achievable and practical solution for smart home enthusiasts.
In addition to the K20 Plus Pro, SwitchBot also announced the SwitchBot S20 Pro, a successor to the popular S10 mopping robot vacuum. The S20 Pro features an extendable roller mop and side brush to help the robot mop and vacuum in harder-to-reach areas, as well as 15,000Pa of suction power. The robot is compatible with two all-in-one auto-empty base stations, one with a regular water tank and one that can hook into plumbing.
Both the K20 Plus Pro and the S20 Pro will support Matter over Wi-Fi, making them compatible with Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, and any other platform that supports robot vacuums in Matter. SwitchBot plans to launch the K20 Plus Pro and S20 Pro in May or June 2025 in custom bundled kits, offering users a range of functionality options.
The K20 Plus Pro's modular approach and versatility make it an exciting development in the smart home space. While it may not be a fully fledged humanoid robot like Rosie, it represents a significant step towards creating a more integrated and automated home experience. As the company continues to develop and refine its technology, it will be interesting to see how users adapt to and interact with these innovative devices.
