Spotify's Wrapped Concept Inspires Other Platforms to Create Year-in-Review Features

Spotify's annual Wrapped feature has become a highly anticipated event, giving users a personalized summary of their listening habits over the past year. The concept has proven to be incredibly popular, and as a result, many other companies have seized the opportunity to create similar year-in-review experiences for their users.

One of the most notable examples is Amazon Music, which has launched its own version called "2024 Delivered." This feature offers users a summary of their listening stats, including top artists, songs, and even podcasts. What sets Amazon Music's feature apart is its integration with Alexa, which provides users with a special message from their favorite artist. The feature can be accessed by tapping the Library page on the app.

Apple Music, on the other hand, has been offering its "Replay" experience since 2019. This feature provides users with a summary of their top songs, artists, albums, genres, playlists, and stations, including play counts, total time spent listening, and other insights. Users can also share their personalized listening data on social media, and a year-end highlight reel offers an audio and visual recap of the music they listened to the most throughout the year. This year, Apple Music introduced a new feature called "listening streaks," which shows users the days when they listened to music on the service the longest.

Deezer, another music streaming app, offers a yearly roundup called "My Deezer Year," which provides a summary of users' music consumption over the year, including top songs, genres, most-listened-to albums, and favorite artists. What makes Deezer's feature stand out is its option to "roast" or "hype up" users based on their music preferences, as well as a quiz that tests how well friends and family know their music taste.

SoundCloud, YouTube Music, and Duolingo are also among the platforms that have launched their own year-end wrap-up features. SoundCloud's recap gives users an overview of their top five artists, albums, tracks, and moods, while YouTube Music's Recap feature offers a personalized and interactive experience, including the top five artists, songs, moods, genres, albums, and playlists. Duolingo's "Year in Review" experience, on the other hand, provides users with a 10-page summary that reveals all types of learner insights, such as total XP earned, longest streak, and where they rank compared to other Duolingo users.

Even social networking platforms like Mastodon and Reddit have jumped on the trend, with Mastodon launching "Wrapstodon" to give users an overview of their year on the platform, and Reddit introducing "Reddit Recap," which enables users to examine their yearly engagement on the platform. Netflix, although not offering its own year-end wrap-up, has inspired a video-editing company called Kapwing to develop a tool that uses Netflix viewing data to provide interesting statistics about individual subscribers.

Tinder, inspired by the trend of TikTok users sharing "Dating Wrapped" presentations of their dates throughout the year, has launched a new feature called the "Year In Swipe Vision Board." This tool allows users to create personalized mood boards that summarize their dating experiences from 2024. Additionally, users can set "dating intentions" for the upcoming year, specifying exactly what they are looking for.

As the year comes to a close, it's likely that more companies will launch their own annual recaps. In the past, services like Goodreads, Hulu, Pandora, PlayStation, Strava, Tidal, and even the grocery store Aldi have participated in the trend. With the popularity of Spotify's Wrapped concept showing no signs of slowing down, it will be interesting to see how other companies adapt and innovate their own year-end wrap-up features.

This story was updated after publication to include newly added Wrapped-like features from various platforms.
