Africa's least stressed country has been identified as Seychelles, according to the 2025 Global Emotions Report published by CEOWORLD magazine. The report, which surveyed people in 197 countries and territories, found that Seychelles ranks 57th globally with a stress score of 71.48, making it the continent's most relaxed nation.
The study, conducted between December 2, 2024, and January 12, 2025, evaluated four major stress factors: work, money, social and family life, and health and safety. The results showed that over a third of respondents admitted to experiencing high stress. Monaco emerged as the least stressed country in the world, scoring 83.83 on the stress index, followed by other European nations such as Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Switzerland, and Ireland.
In Africa, Seychelles' low-stress lifestyle can be attributed to its stunning beaches, low population density, and stable economy. Following Seychelles, Mauritius comes in 77th globally, scoring 65.27, and Gabon ranks 87th with a stress score of 61.86. The top 10 least stressed countries in Africa also include Equatorial Guinea, Botswana, Libya, South Africa, Algeria, Cape Verde, and Namibia.
On the other end of the spectrum, Burundi was identified as the most stressed country in Africa, ranking last globally due to its economic hardship and political instability. South Sudan, Malawi, and war-torn nations like Syria and Afghanistan also rank among the most stressed places to live.
The report's findings have significant implications for individuals and businesses looking to relocate or invest in Africa. A country's stress levels can impact its economic growth, social stability, and overall quality of life. As the African continent continues to evolve, understanding the factors that contribute to stress and well-being will be crucial for policymakers and entrepreneurs alike.
