SAP has announced the integration of its AI-powered coding assistant, Joule, into SAP Build Process Automation and SAP Build apps, extending its existing AI capabilities in SAP Build Code and ABAP Cloud. According to Bharat Sandhu, SVP and chief marketing officer for SAP Business Technology Platform, Joule addresses two primary use cases for customers: it makes developers more efficient by handling tedious tasks, and it empowers new developers who may not be familiar with business application development or SAP development.

The AI coding assistant is powered by large language models (LLMs) tailored for SAP workloads, allowing it to perform predictive code completion, generate code explanations, and assist in creating documentation, among other features. Joule's capabilities include application creation, code optimization, and process and workflow automation, making it a valuable tool for developers.

What sets Joule apart from other AI coding assistants is its deep specialization in ABAP, thanks to SAP's enhanced access to ABAP-specific training data. For now, Joule for Developers is free, with pricing to be disclosed in a few months. Sandhu emphasized that the company's mission is to get the tool in the hands of as many people as possible, gather feedback, and then determine pricing.
