Samsung has announced its latest rugged tablet, the Galaxy Tab Active5 Pro, which boasts a unique dual hot-swap battery design. This innovative feature enables users to replace the battery without powering down the device, making it an ideal solution for industries that require continuous operation in harsh environments.
The Galaxy Tab Active5 Pro is designed to withstand the rigors of heavy use, with a robust IP68 dust and water resistance rating. It can survive being submerged in water to a depth of 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes. The tablet's 10.1-inch 120Hz LCD touchscreen display features increased sensitivity, allowing it to be used with gloves, and is powered by a Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 mobile processor paired with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage.
The hot-swap battery feature is a significant upgrade from the previous version of the tablet, which only allowed for removable batteries. This new design enables users to swap out batteries without interrupting their work, ensuring minimal downtime and increased productivity. However, Samsung notes that the tablet will be mostly unusable during the swap process, with the screen turning off and certain features being limited.
In addition to its rugged design and hot-swap battery, the Galaxy Tab Active5 Pro features a range of other impressive specifications. It sports a 12-megapixel rear camera and an eight-megapixel front-facing camera, and runs on Android 15. The tablet also comes with an S Pen stylus, which improves usability in wet conditions when wet fingers may not be recognized by the touchscreen.
Samsung has also announced the Galaxy XCover7 Pro smartphone, which is designed for use in harsh environments. The smartphone features an upgraded stereo speaker system, a larger 4,350mAh battery, and an IP68 water and dust rating. It has also been tested for use with workplace sanitizers, making it suitable for environments like hospitals.
Both the Galaxy Tab Active5 Pro and Galaxy XCover7 Pro will be available later this year, with the smartphone launching on May 8th, 2025, and the tablet following in June 2025. Pricing for the devices has not been announced.
The launch of these rugged devices highlights Samsung's commitment to providing solutions for industries that require durable and reliable technology. The Galaxy Tab Active5 Pro's hot-swap battery feature is a significant innovation that sets it apart from other rugged tablets on the market, making it an attractive option for businesses and organizations operating in harsh environments.
