Samsung has officially announced its latest additions to the Galaxy smartphone line at Samsung Unpacked 2025, revealing three new models: the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 Ultra. While the news didn't bring many surprises, the focus on AI-powered upgrades via Google's Gemini platform aligns with the rest of the mobile industry.
The Galaxy S25 series maintains Samsung's traditional tiered system, with distinct hardware differences between models. The main distinction lies in the price point, with a $500 gap between the starting prices of the S25 and S25 Ultra. This significant price difference is attributed to varying display sizes, camera capabilities, processor power, and storage options.
Starting with the display, the S25 features a 6.2-inch FHD+ screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, while the S25+ boasts a 6.7-inch QHD+ display with the same refresh rate. The S25 Ultra takes it a step further with a 6.9-inch QHD+ screen, also featuring a 120Hz refresh rate. Front-facing camera capabilities remain consistent across all three models, with a 12-megapixel sensor, F2.2 aperture, and 80-degree field of view.
The rear-facing camera setup is where the models diverge. The S25 and S25+ share a three-camera setup, consisting of a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens, a 50-megapixel wide lens, and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. The S25 Ultra, on the other hand, features a four-camera setup, adding a 200-megapixel wide lens and an additional 10-megapixel telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom.
Powering the Galaxy S25 series is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform for Galaxy, present in all three models. Memory and storage options vary, with the S25 offering 12GB of memory and 128GB or 256GB of storage. The S25+ ups the ante with 12GB of memory and 256GB or 512GB of storage, while the S25 Ultra adds a 1TB storage option.
Battery capacity also differs between models, with the S25 featuring a 4,000mAh typical battery, the S25+ boasting a 4,900mAh typical battery, and the S25 Ultra packing a 5,000mAh typical battery. All three models share IP68 water resistance and similar dimensions, with the S25 Ultra being the largest and heaviest of the trio.
The Galaxy S25 series is now available for preorder, with shipping set to begin on February 7. Pricing starts at $800 for the S25, $1,000 for the S25+, and $1,300 for the S25 Ultra. With the AI-powered upgrades and tiered pricing, Samsung aims to cater to a wide range of consumers, from budget-conscious buyers to those seeking premium features.
The implications of Samsung's latest release are twofold. Firstly, the focus on AI-driven upgrades signals a shift towards more intelligent and personalized smartphone experiences. Secondly, the tiered pricing strategy allows Samsung to compete with other manufacturers in various segments of the market. As the smartphone landscape continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how Samsung's latest offerings will fare in the competitive market.
