Samsung Unveils Galaxy A56 with Enhanced AI Capabilities and Modest Spec Upgrades

Samsung has officially announced its latest Galaxy A-series devices, including the Galaxy A56, A36, and A26, which come with a range of new features and upgrades. The most notable addition is the integration of more advanced AI capabilities, similar to those found in the company's pricier S25 lineup.

The new AI features, dubbed "awesome intelligence," enable a range of new image editing tools, including Best Face, which allows users to swap facial expressions of up to five people in a motion photo. This feature is similar to Google Pixel's Best Take and was first introduced with the Galaxy S25 in January. Additionally, the devices come with an improved object removal tool, photo filters, and Google's Circle to Search feature, which allows users to search for images by circling them on their screen.

Beyond the AI upgrades, Samsung has made some modest design tweaks to each phone. The Galaxy A56, A36, and A26 all feature a 6.7-inch full HD Plus display with an up to 120Hz refresh rate, which is an upgrade from the smaller screens found on their predecessors. The A56 also comes with a 12MP ultrawide sensor, 50MP main camera, and 5MP macro camera, as well as a 12MP selfie shooter.

In terms of processing power, the A56 comes with an upgraded Exynos 1580 chip, while the A36 features a last-gen Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chip. All three devices have a 5,000 mAh battery, with the A56 and A36 supporting 45W charging and featuring a "larger vapor chamber" to improve performance. The A26, meanwhile, gets a slightly larger 6.7-inch display and IP67 dust and water resistance for the first time.

The devices will ship with Android 15 and come in a range of colors that vary by device. Pricing for the Galaxy A-series devices starts at $299 for the A26, $399 for the A36, and $499 for the A56. The A36 will be available exclusively at Best Buy starting on March 26th, while the A26 will launch on March 28th. The devices will also be available for purchase in the UK on March 19th.

The introduction of these new devices marks a significant shift in Samsung's strategy, as the company looks to bring more advanced AI capabilities to its budget-friendly lineup. With the Galaxy A-series devices, Samsung is clearly targeting consumers who want high-end features without the hefty price tag. As the smartphone market continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how Samsung's new devices fare against the competition.
