Samsung has announced a groundbreaking feature on its 2025 TVs, dubbed Samsung Food, which uses artificial intelligence to recognize food on screen and provide users with recipes to recreate their favorite TV-inspired dishes at home.
The feature, unveiled during Samsung's CES 2025 press conference in Las Vegas, builds upon the company's existing Samsung Food app, which was rebranded from Whisk in 2023. The app offers meal planning tools, AI-guided cooking steps, and recipe suggestions based on user preferences. With the new TV integration, users can now seamlessly transition from TV inspiration to home cooking.
The Samsung Food feature on TV is designed to recognize food on screen, whether it's a mouth-watering dish from a cooking show or a tantalizing meal from a movie. The AI-powered technology then provides users with a recipe to recreate the dish, complete with ingredients and cooking instructions. Additionally, the feature allows users to track the progress of their grocery and takeout deliveries, making the cooking process even more convenient.
Samsung claims that the app can even build a shopping list for ingredients based on what's already in the user's fridge, touting it as the "ultimate AI sous chef." While this feature sounds impressive, it remains to be seen whether it can live up to the marketing hype, given the limitations of similar AI-powered recipe tools.
It's worth noting that Samsung Food on TV is a more limited version of the mobile app, which offers more comprehensive features for a premium subscription fee. However, the integration with Samsung's TVs marks a significant step forward in bridging the gap between TV inspiration and home cooking.
The Samsung Food feature will be available on the company's upcoming QN90F, QN80F, and QN70F TV models. While it may not be a game-changer for those who are culinary-challenged, it's an innovative feature that could appeal to TV enthusiasts and home cooks alike.
As the smart home landscape continues to evolve, Samsung's foray into AI-powered cooking tools marks an interesting development in the intersection of technology and everyday life. Whether Samsung Food on TV can deliver on its promises remains to be seen, but it's undoubtedly a feature that will generate significant buzz in the tech and culinary communities.
