Samsung made a surprise announcement at its CES press conference last week, teasing its upcoming Unpacked event, which is set to take place on Wednesday at 10 a.m. PT. The event will be streamed live on Samsung's website and YouTube channel, and the company is offering a $50 store credit to those who reserve a spot ahead of time.
The Galaxy S25 series is expected to be the main attraction at the event, following Samsung's twice-a-year cadence for flagship releases. The lineup is rumored to include three models: the S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra, with the latter being the result of the S line absorbing the Galaxy Note as its most premium device. Leaks and renders have been circulating online, giving us a glimpse into the design and dimensions of the new devices.
One of the most significant changes expected in the Galaxy S25 series is a slimmer design, with rumors suggesting that Samsung has shaved 1 to 2 millimeters off the device's profile. Additionally, the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, unveiled by Qualcomm last October, is likely to be included in the new devices. This will provide a significant boost to the phone's performance and capabilities.
Galaxy AI is expected to be a major focus of the event, with Samsung looking to differentiate its offering from Google's Gemini features, which will be available across Android devices. Last year's Circle to Search feature, which launched on the S24, is a testament to Samsung's efforts to establish itself as a leader in the AI category.
While the Galaxy S25 series is the main event, there are rumors of other potential reveals, including a successor to the Galaxy Ring wearable and a closer look at Project Moohan, an extended reality headset being jointly developed with Google. However, these are less certain and will likely be secondary to the main attraction.
The Unpacked event is a significant moment for Samsung, as it looks to regain momentum in the smartphone market. With the Galaxy S25 series expected to be a major upgrade over its predecessor, Samsung is poised to make a big impact in the industry. As the company continues to innovate and push the boundaries of what is possible with mobile technology, the Unpacked event is sure to be a major talking point in the tech world.
