Russia and Zimbabwe have successfully concluded their first joint geological expedition, marking a significant milestone in their bilateral relationship. The mission, which took place in the Magondi area of northwest Zimbabwe, aimed to examine the Magondi belt and gain insights into the Earth's crust evolution in the region.

The expedition, carried out by experts from the University of Zimbabwe and the Russian State University for Geological Prospecting, involved rock sampling, paleontological discoveries, and conclusions drawn about the region's ecosystems and historical climatic conditions. The team also launched two environmental monitoring stations, ECOGEOSCAN 1 and ECOGEOSCAN 2, at the University of Zimbabwe.

The joint mission has significant implications for Zimbabwe's diamond exploration, as Russian experts shared their insights on kimberlite pipe searching techniques. The University of Zimbabwe has expressed interest in further developing joint scientific research and technological developments in the field of environmental monitoring.
