Ring Partners with Kidde to Launch Smart Smoke and CO Alarms

Ring, a leading security company, has announced a new partnership with fire safety brand Kidde to launch smart smoke and carbon monoxide alarms that connect to the Ring app via Wi-Fi. The collaboration aims to provide users with enhanced home safety features, allowing them to receive alerts on their phones when the alarms are triggered.

The Kidde Smart Smoke Alarm with Ring and the Kidde Smart Smoke and CO Alarm with Ring will be available this April at The Home Depot, with more retailers to follow later in 2025. The hardwired alarms with battery backup will be priced at $54.97 and $74.97, respectively. One of the key benefits of these alarms is that they do not require a Ring Alarm system to function, making them a more accessible option for users.

Once connected to the Ring app, the alarms will send alerts to users' phones when triggered, and also notify them about low battery levels to avoid unwanted chirps. While the Ring app cannot silence an active alarm, users will be able to do so manually. Additionally, if users have other compatible hardwired Kidde smoke alarms in their homes, adding one of these Ring-powered alarms will enable their existing alarms to connect to the Ring app.

Notably, the Kidde alarms do not require a Ring Alarm hub to connect to the app, and users will not need a subscription to receive alerts. However, Ring will offer the option of 24/7 professional monitoring of the smoke alarms for $5 a month. Users who already have Ring Professional Monitoring for their Ring Alarm will have smoke alarm monitoring included.

The smart smoke alarm market is currently limited, with few options available to users. Google's Nest Protect is one of the most well-known options, but its high price point of $149 may be a barrier for some users. The Nest Protect also lacks professional monitoring, which may be a concern for some users. First Alert's OneLink smart alarm line has been discontinued, leaving a gap in the market that Ring and Kidde's partnership aims to fill.

Kidde already offers a stand-alone line of Wi-Fi-connected smart smoke alarms that work with its app to send alerts and integrate with Amazon Alexa and Google Home. However, these new alarms will only work with the Ring app at launch and will not integrate with other smart home systems.

The partnership between Ring and Kidde marks a significant development in the smart home security market, offering users a more comprehensive and integrated solution for their home safety needs. As the market continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how this partnership shapes the future of smart smoke alarm technology.
