Amanda DeLuca, a seasoned product manager with a background in top tech companies like Google, Nerdwallet, and Etsy, has launched Riley, a parenting management app that aims to revolutionize the way parents track their baby's milestones and find answers to their parenting questions. DeLuca's personal experience with parental anxiety and the inefficiency of existing solutions led her to create Riley, which is now in public beta.
DeLuca's journey to create Riley began three years ago when she became pregnant. She and her husband, also a product manager, devoured books and online resources to prepare for parenthood. However, despite their extensive research, they found themselves unprepared when their daughter was born. They turned to the internet for answers, but the available solutions were either content-dense or tech-poor, leaving them frustrated and seeking a better way.
Riley addresses this gap by offering two main functions. The app allows parents to track their baby's sleep, diaper changes, vaccines, and feeding, providing AI-powered insights on the best times for naps and identifying patterns in their baby's behavior. Additionally, Riley features an AI-powered answer platform that provides personalized solutions based on the data entered by parents. The company has assembled a clinical board to ensure the quality of its knowledge base, which is informed by medical and psychological studies.
The app's onboarding process is currently short and sweet, asking parents about themselves, their children, their parenting style, and co-caregivers. However, DeLuca plans to expand the onboarding process to provide more personalized suggestions from the start. In the future, Riley will also ask parents about their baby's personality traits to offer additional insights.
Riley is currently available in public beta, with a single subscription plan that offers a 30-day trial. The subscription costs $14.99 per month, $11.99 per month for a quarter, or $9.99 per month for a year, depending on the billing cycle chosen. The company plans to exit public beta later this year and introduce training guides for parents, including a sleep training guide for babies.
Riley is part of a growing trend of apps that aim to build personalized knowledge bases using AI to augment existing knowledge and provide answers. The app faces competition from other parenting apps like Huckleberry and Maple, but its focus on science-backed advice and personalized insights sets it apart.
To scale its business and user base, Riley has raised $3.1 million in a seed round led by True Ventures, with participation from Flybridge and Next Wave NYC. True Ventures' Natasha Sharma, who is joining Riley's board, believes that the app can provide much-needed, science-based parental advice. "In the age of content saturation, parents face the challenge of knowing where to ask their most pressing and intimate questions," Sharma noted. "Riley delivers science-backed advice tailored to each family's context, helping families thrive with guidance that evolves as they do."
With its unique approach to parenting management and its focus on personalized, science-backed advice, Riley is poised to make a significant impact in the parenting tech space. As the app continues to evolve and expand its features, it's likely to become an indispensable tool for parents seeking guidance and support in their parenting journey.
