With Election Day just around the corner, several tech companies are stepping up to ensure that transportation doesn't become a barrier to casting a vote. Micromobility companies Lime, Bird, and Spin are offering free rides to and from polling places, while ride-hailing companies Lyft and Uber are providing discounted fares.

Lyft is offering 50% discounts on rides to the polls, capping out at $10, and is also partnering with bikeshare and scootershare services to increase accessibility. Uber, on the other hand, is providing 50% off trips to polling stations, with a maximum discount of $10. The company's food delivery service, Uber Eats, is also offering 25% off orders on Election Day.

In addition to ride-hailing and micromobility companies, car rental company Hertz is offering a free day of rental for customers who book two or more days between October 21 and November 5. Meanwhile, Google and Moovit are providing valuable resources to help voters navigate the voting process, including information on polling locations and voter registration.

These initiatives are significant, as they aim to increase voter turnout by removing transportation barriers. As Derek Bowens, the director of the Durham County Board of Elections, noted, "Free bus rides all day on Election Day will most definitely encourage voter turnout since for many Durham residents, public transit is a practical way to get to the polls."
