RetroTINK, a company that specializes in creating hardware for playing retro consoles on modern screens, has announced that it will be temporarily suspending US shipments due to uncertainty surrounding the collection of tariffs. Despite being willing to pre-pay President Donald Trump's tariffs, the company is halting shipments due to a lack of guidance from the government on how to proceed.
The decision comes as a result of the recent tariffs imposed by the Trump administration, which has caused widespread disruption to global trade. RetroTINK's Mike Chi explained on Bluesky that the company is suspending shipments "due to lack of guidance on how tariffs will be collected starting May 2nd." Chi added that without proper procedures in place, the risk of delays and lost packages is simply too high.
The company has stated that it will resume shipments "as soon as we understand how to pre-pay tariffs on behalf of the customer." However, with no clear guidance from the government, RetroTINK is left with no choice but to suspend shipments. The company has set April 23rd as the last day to make non-expedited orders and April 28th as the last day to make expedited orders for US-bound shipments.
RetroTINK is not the only company affected by the tariffs. Fangamer, another company in the gaming industry, is delaying preorders of the Pizza Tower Collector's Edition due to the uncertainty surrounding the tariffs. The tariffs have caused widespread disruption to global trade, with many companies struggling to navigate the complex and ever-changing landscape.
The tariffs, which were announced on April 2nd, have been the subject of much controversy. Initially, the tariffs were set at 25%, but were later reduced to 10% for many countries. However, the US currently has a 145% tariff in place on goods imported from China, which has caused significant disruption to trade between the two countries.
The impact of the tariffs on small businesses like RetroTINK and Fangamer cannot be overstated. With no clear guidance on how to navigate the complex tariff system, many companies are being forced to suspend shipments or delay orders. The situation is further complicated by the lack of clarity from the government on how the tariffs will be collected and enforced.
As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how RetroTINK and other companies will be affected by the tariffs. One thing is certain, however - the lack of guidance and clarity from the government is causing significant disruption to global trade, and it is small businesses that are bearing the brunt of the impact.
In the meantime, RetroTINK customers will have to wait until the company is able to resume shipments. The company has stated that it expects the situation to be resolved eventually, but it is impossible to say when or how. As the situation continues to evolve, it is clear that the impact of the tariffs will be felt for some time to come.
