At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Reddit announced the launch of new trends tools aimed at businesses, along with a novel ad format for its popular Ask Me Anything (AMA) Q&A sessions. This move comes on the heels of a record fiscal quarter for the social network, which reported over 100 million daily active users for the first time, marking a 47% uptick from the previous year.
Reddit's free suite of tools for brands, Reddit Pro, is getting a significant upgrade with the introduction of Reddit Pro Trends. This feature allows companies to track keywords or phrases, such as brand names, product names, categories, and viral trends, to see when, where, and how Reddit users are discussing them in real-time. The Trends tab on the Reddit Pro menu provides a visualization of conversation volume, a list of communities mentioning the keyword or phrase, a feed of conversations with the keyword or phrase, and soon, a list of related keywords.
According to Reddit, community favorites like Wayfair and the NBA have already been using Reddit Pro Trends as part of a test to find and join conversations in communities that want to hear from them. For growing businesses like Nudge Security, Van Votz, and No Reception Club, these insights help them find and engage with their specific audience on Reddit. In fact, Reddit Pro Trends led to 12% more posts created by participating businesses, demonstrating the tool's potential to drive engagement and growth.
In addition to Reddit Pro Trends, the company is introducing AMA Ads, a new way to share AMAs across Reddit. Businesses can now promote AMA sessions directly from Reddit's ad manager, allowing them to see the number of RVSPs for a particular event. This move is expected to increase the visibility and reach of AMAs, making them a more attractive option for businesses looking to connect with Reddit's vast user base.
Reddit's focus on growth is evident in its recent initiatives. Last September, the company brought AI-powered automatic translation to dozens of new countries, and in November, Reddit announced plans to invest in international markets like the UK, India, Brazil, and the Philippines. While the U.S. still accounts for 83% of Reddit's total revenue, the company is poised to expand its local advertising to other countries, as stated by Reddit COO Jen Wong in a recent interview with CNBC.
The company's record fiscal quarter, marked by 68% year-over-year revenue growth and profitability, demonstrates the success of its growth strategy. With the introduction of Reddit Pro Trends and AMA Ads, Reddit is well-positioned to continue its upward trajectory, providing businesses with valuable tools to engage with its vast and active user base.
As Reddit continues to expand its offerings and global reach, it will be interesting to see how the company balances its commitment to user experience with its growing focus on business and revenue growth. One thing is clear, however: Reddit is emerging as a major player in the social media landscape, and its latest announcements are sure to have a significant impact on the industry.
