Razer has officially unveiled its latest iteration of the Blade 16 laptop, boasting a significant redesign that makes it over 30 percent thinner than its predecessor. The new model packs a punch with up to a Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 CPU and a next-generation NVIDIA GPU, making it a powerful contender in the gaming laptop market.
The most striking feature of the new Blade 16 is its slimmed-down design, measuring just 0.59 inches (14.9mm) thick in the front and 0.69 inches (17.4mm) in the back, excluding the feet. This puts it in close competition with the 16-inch MacBook Pro M4, which has a thickness of 0.61 inches (15.5mm) including feet. Despite the reduced thickness, the new Blade 16 has a deeper profile than its predecessor, measuring 250.5mm front to back, compared to 244mm for the 2024 model.
Under the hood, the Blade 16 features a significant upgrade in processing power, with the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 CPU marking the first time Razer has used an AMD processor in the Blade 16. The laptop also boasts a next-generation NVIDIA GPU, although specific details on the GPU model have not been disclosed. The display retains the 240Hz OLED introduced last year, providing a seamless gaming experience.
In addition to the hardware upgrades, Razer has made notable improvements to the audio system and keyboard. The speaker array has been increased from four to six speakers, providing a more immersive audio experience. The keyboard has also seen significant changes, with the travel of the keys increasing from 1mm to 1.5mm, and the introduction of a new Copilot key.
However, the thinner design may come at a cost. The new Blade 16 has a 90Wh battery, which is smaller than the 95.2Wh battery found in the 2023 model. Razer claims that the battery can charge to 80 percent in about 45 minutes, which may be necessary given the potential impact on battery life. The company has also implemented a new thermal gel that covers more interior surface area than the 2023 model, which may help mitigate heat issues.
The AMD chip used in the Blade 16 may also help with heat management and battery life. In a previous test, an Asus ROG Zephyrus G16 with the same Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 CPU was found to run for three hours longer in non-gaming tasks and produce slightly less heat than the same laptop with an Intel Core Ultra 9 185H. However, it remains to be seen how these improvements will translate to the new Blade 16.
The 2025 Razer Blade 16 is set to release in the first quarter of this year, although pricing has not been announced. Given the significant upgrades and redesign, it's likely that the new model will come with a premium price tag.
Overall, the new Razer Blade 16 represents a major overhaul of the company's flagship gaming laptop, with significant improvements in design, processing power, and features. As the gaming laptop market continues to evolve, Razer's latest offering is sure to be a major player in the coming year.
