OpenAI Bolsters Leadership with Top Hires from Government and Tech Giants

In a move to strengthen its position in the AI landscape, OpenAI has appointed two high-profile executives to its leadership team. Aaron Chatterji, former chief economist at the US Commerce Department under President Joe Biden, has been hired as the company's first chief economist. Chatterji, also a professor at Duke University, will lead research into the economic impacts of AI, including its influence on economic growth and job prospects.

The appointment is significant, given Chatterji's experience in coordinating the Biden administration's implementation of the 2022 CHIPS Act, which authorized $280 billion in funding for US computer chip development. This expertise will be invaluable as OpenAI pursues its own chip design efforts.

In another key hire, OpenAI has appointed Scott Schools, former associate deputy attorney general and Uber's compliance head, as its new chief compliance officer. Schools will work with the company's board and teams to ensure legal requirements and ethics are met.

These strategic hires demonstrate OpenAI's commitment to advancing AI research and development, while prioritizing responsible innovation and compliance.
