Nvidia has officially confirmed the existence of a leaked quad-slot prototype GPU, codenamed "Titan ADA," which played a crucial role in the development of the company's latest RTX 5090 graphics card. The confirmation came in a video published by Nvidia, showcasing the history of its Founders Edition graphics card designs.
The leaked prototype, first revealed by leaker Kopite7kimi, featured an unconventional triple-fan cooling system. Earlier this month, Gamers Nexus tested and tore down a working version of the prototype, providing a closer look at its design. According to Nvidia's EVP of system products, Andrew Bell, the company was not satisfied with the prototype's large size, which occupied four slots and was limited to a select number of chassis.
Bell explained that the prototype's design influenced Nvidia's Blackwell architecture, but the company ultimately opted for a more compact and efficient solution. The RTX 5090 Founders Edition card, currently being tested, achieves its goals through a modular four-part design featuring a separate I/O board. This design allows for air to flow through the system, resulting in a more efficient and compact cooler.
The new design has enabled Nvidia to reduce the RTX 5090's size, making it compatible with two slots on the motherboard, compared to the previous three-slot RTX 4090. This significant reduction in size is a testament to Nvidia's commitment to creating more compact and efficient graphics cards.
The confirmation of the leaked prototype and its influence on the RTX 5090 design provides valuable insight into Nvidia's design process and its efforts to innovate in the field of graphics cards. As the company continues to push the boundaries of what is possible with GPU design, it will be interesting to see how these advancements impact the gaming and technology industries as a whole.
In related news, Nvidia's small GPU initiative aims to keep graphics cards compact, despite the increasing complexity of modern GPUs. While the initiative may not result in drastically smaller GPUs, it is a step in the right direction, and the RTX 5090 is a promising example of what can be achieved through innovative design.
As the RTX 5090 prepares to hit the market, gamers and tech enthusiasts alike will be eagerly awaiting its release, eager to experience the performance and efficiency that Nvidia's latest design has to offer.
