Nvidia has announced the Jetson Orin Nano Super Developer Kit, a powerful and compact AI computer that promises to bring affordable artificial intelligence capabilities to hobbyists and makers. Priced at $249, the new dev kit offers a significant performance boost over its predecessor, making it an attractive option for those looking to power AI and robotics projects.
The Jetson Orin Nano Super kit boasts a 70% increase in neural processing power, reaching 67 TOPS (tera operations per second), compared to the 40 TOPS of the original Orin Nano. Additionally, the new kit features 50% more memory bandwidth, clocking in at 102GB/s, which is expected to significantly speed up AI operations. These performance gains are attributed to a new power mode that increases the GPU, memory, and CPU clocks, according to Nvidia.
The Jetson Orin Nano Super kit uses the same hardware as the original Orin Nano kit, and Nvidia has confirmed that the previous model will also receive the same performance gains through a new JetPack update. This means that existing users of the Orin Nano kit will be able to tap into the increased power and capabilities of the new Super kit.
The dev kit includes a reference carrier board and a Jetson Orin Nano 8GB system-on-module, featuring an Nvidia Ampere GPU with tensor cores and a 6-core Arm CPU. According to Nvidia, the Nano Super Developer Kit is an ideal solution for building chatbots, visual AI agents, and AI-based robots.
Nvidia's Jensen Huang showcased the Nano Super in a video, highlighting the kit's capabilities and potential applications. The company's continued investment in the Jetson Nano line demonstrates its commitment to making AI development more accessible and affordable for a wider range of users.
The Jetson Orin Nano Super Developer Kit is available for purchase now, offering a compelling option for those looking to harness the power of AI in their projects. With its significant performance boost and affordable price point, the kit is poised to have a significant impact on the AI development community.
As AI technology continues to advance and become increasingly integrated into various aspects of our lives, the availability of affordable and powerful dev kits like the Jetson Orin Nano Super will play a crucial role in driving innovation and adoption. Nvidia's latest offering is a significant step in this direction, and its implications will be closely watched by the tech community in the months to come.
