Nvidia has announced a price cut for its RTX 50-series of graphics processing units (GPUs) across Europe, citing a stronger Euro against the US dollar as the primary reason. This move comes as a welcome relief to European customers who have been facing high prices for these GPUs.
According to reports by Videocardz, the RTX 5090 has seen a price drop of over 4% to €2,229, down from its original launch price of €2,329. The RTX 5080 has also experienced a price reduction of €50, now priced at €1,119, while the RTX 5070 has dropped to €619 from €649. The only exception to this price cut is the RTX 5070 Ti, which Nvidia did not release a Founders Edition for, and thus remains at its original price of €879.
In the UK, the RTX 5090 is now priced at £1,889, down from its launch price of £1,939. While this price cut is certainly beneficial to customers, it's worth noting that stock levels for these GPUs remain low, making it difficult for consumers to purchase them at these adjusted retail prices.
Nvidia's decision to cut prices comes on the heels of the company's claim that it has sold more RTX 50-series GPUs than 40-series GPUs during the first five weeks of launch. However, this claim has been met with some skepticism, as the RTX 4090 was the only RTX 40-series card available for more than a month during its launch period in 2022.
Industry analysts believe that Nvidia's price cut is a strategic move to stay competitive in the European market, where AMD's GPUs have been gaining traction. The reduced prices may also help to drive sales and increase market share for Nvidia's RTX 50-series GPUs.
As the global tech industry continues to navigate the complexities of exchange rates and market fluctuations, this move by Nvidia serves as a reminder of the dynamic nature of the GPU market. With the ongoing competition between Nvidia and AMD, it will be interesting to see how this price cut affects the market and what responses we can expect from AMD in the coming weeks.
