Nintendo Unveils Switch 2's Homescreen, UI Remains Largely Unchanged

Nintendo has given fans a sneak peek at the Switch 2's homescreen, and it seems the company is sticking to a familiar design. The image, revealed on Nintendo's website, shows a homescreen that looks almost identical to the original Switch's, with only minor aesthetic tweaks. This has raised questions about whether the Switch 2 will offer customization options, a feature that has become increasingly popular among gamers.

The homescreen image was buried at the bottom of a webpage detailing updates to certain games for the Switch 2, which is set to release in June. The screenshot highlights the location of the eShop icon, but otherwise, the layout and design remain largely unchanged. It's likely that users will still be able to select a darker UI option, as they can on the original Switch, but beyond that, it's unclear what customization options will be available.

This lack of customization options may come as a surprise to some, given the trend towards personalized gaming experiences. Both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S offer users the ability to customize their homescreens, including setting custom wallpapers. It's unclear why Nintendo has chosen not to follow suit, but it's possible that the company is prioritizing other features and functionalities.

The Switch 2 is positioned as a gaming machine that also enables screen-sharing video calls, which makes the lack of customization options even more puzzling. Allowing users to personalize their homescreen could have been a major selling point for the console, especially among gamers who value aesthetics and personalization.

Despite the lack of UI changes, the Switch 2 is still generating significant buzz, thanks to its impressive specs, new features, and upcoming games. The console is set to release on June 5th, with a price tag of $449.99. Pre-orders are already open, and fans are eagerly anticipating the chance to get their hands on the new console.

As the Switch 2's release date approaches, it will be interesting to see if Nintendo addresses the lack of customization options or if it will remain a point of contention among gamers. For now, fans will have to be content with the familiar, yet slightly tweaked, homescreen design.
