Nintendo's highly anticipated Switch 2 console has been the subject of intense speculation, and now, thanks to a series of leaks from accessory maker Dbrand, we have our first detailed look at the console's design and specs. The company's CEO, Adam Ijaz, claims to have "actual dimensions" of the Switch 2, which he says are based on a 3D scan of the real hardware.
According to Dbrand's renderings, the Switch 2 will be larger than the current Switch OLED, measuring 270mm wide, 116mm tall, and 14mm thick. The console portion will take up 200mm of that width, and the kickstand will remain at around half the console's height, at 55mm. The screen is expected to be around 8 inches, based on diagonal measurements of the cover glass.
One of the most notable changes is the new Joy-Con design, which features a mysterious second square button under the Home button, marked with a "C". Ijaz is unsure what this button does, but it's possible it could be related to camera control, given Nintendo's history with C-buttons on the Nintendo 64 controller. The left Joy-Con still has a button on the left, which is where the capture button is located on the original Switch.
The joysticks on the new Joy-Cons stand 6.27mm tall, and the D-pad and ABXY buttons protrude by 1.57mm. The back triggers extend 14.1mm, and the kickstand is 180mm wide. The controller parts of Dbrand's case are detachable, and the company is working towards a late March or early April release for its case.
Dbrand's revelations line up with a separate video from SwitchUp, which shows a similar mockup of the Switch 2 sent to them by a case manufacturer. This mockup also features a larger console, new Joy-Cons, and a second USB-C port on the top, which would allow for charging while in tabletop mode.
While Nintendo has yet to officially announce the Switch 2, the company has confirmed that the console will be able to play current Switch games and will feature Nintendo Switch Online. The release date remains unknown, but with these latest leaks, it's clear that the Switch 2 is shaping up to be a significant upgrade over its predecessor.
Dbrand's bold move in revealing this much about the Switch 2 is not surprising, given the company's history of poking fun at console makers. The company has previously released skins that mock Nintendo's lawyers, and it's clear that they're not afraid to ruffle some feathers.
As we wait for Nintendo to officially announce the Switch 2, these leaks provide a tantalizing glimpse into what we can expect from the next-generation console. With its larger screen, upgraded controllers, and new features, the Switch 2 is shaping up to be a major player in the gaming market.
