Nintendo Switch 2 Leak Reveals Magnetic Controllers, U-Shaped Kickstand, and More

A new leak from a Reddit user named "NextHandheld" has provided a wealth of information about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, including details about its design, controllers, and features. The leaker claims to have seen and touched a final retail unit of the console, lending credibility to the revelations.

The leak suggests that the Nintendo Switch 2 will feature magnetic controllers, which will replace the traditional rail system with a magnetic attachment. This design change is expected to eliminate the infamous "Joy-Con Drift" issue that has plagued the original Switch controllers. The controllers will also feature Hall effect joysticks, which can be recalibrated easily and don't contain deteriorating sensor material.

The Switch 2's dock has also been revealed, with a design that differs from the 3D scan leaked earlier. The dock will feature the same logo as the original Switch, but with a "2" attached. It will have two USB-A ports, one HDMI port, one ethernet port, and one USB-C port, but no additional ports beyond those found on the original Switch. However, the dock may have a trick up its sleeve, with a possible increase in power output when the console is docked.

The Switch 2's kickstand has also been redesigned, with a U-shaped rail that is more robust than the original Switch's tiny kickstand or the Switch OLED's flat plate. The kickstand is expected to provide more stability and flexibility when using the console in tabletop mode.

Other details revealed by the leaker include the console's power ratings, with the dock rated for 60W and the handheld rated for 45W. This is substantially higher than the original Switch's 39W charger, which only provided up to 18W for the handheld. The Switch 2 is also expected to launch in dark grey, followed by a white model and a themed model featuring a Nintendo game that hasn't received a themed Switch yet.

While the leaker's claims have not been officially confirmed by Nintendo, they do provide a wealth of new information about the Switch 2's design and features. If the leak is legitimate, it suggests that Nintendo is making significant changes to the console's design and functionality, which could have a major impact on the gaming industry.

With Nintendo expected to formally announce the Switch 2 by March 31st, 2025, gamers won't have to wait long to find out if these leaks are true. If the console does launch in January as rumored, it could be a major game-changer for the gaming industry in 2025.
